“The life in Sardinia is perhaps the best that a man can hope: 24 kilometres of forests, of countryside, of coasts immersed in a miraculous sea should coincide with what I would advise at the good God to give us as paradise. “( Fabrizio De André, 1996-one of the major Italian musical artists)”.

In modern times, many travellers and writers have exalted in their works the beauty of the island. It is immersed in environment in large part uncontaminated, which houses a botanical and faunal landscape with only species, in which they are found the remnants of the mysterious nuraghic culture.

The English writer David Herbert Lawrence, in its pilgrim journey inside of the “Barbagia” (internal zone island famous for its wild territory and for its uses and customs that are remained unchanged in the time), wrote surprised in his diary of travel:

“This land not resembles any other place. Sardinia is another thing: enchanting space around and distance to travel, nothing finished, nothing definitive. It is like freedom itself. ”

Anyone who passes for this earth remains fascinated by its extraordinary beauty and hospitality. Its coves and crystal clear waters are now the most attraction of Island, that is  considered among the most beautiful in the world.

Climate
Over 80% of the territory is mountainous or hilly. The climate is pleasant, characterized by mild winters and long and warm summers (up to 40° C.). The precipitation are particularly scarce, especially in the southern part of the island. The wind, for the happiness of surfers, it is his prerogative, especially in the north.

Its natural landscape is characterized by suggestive mountainous profiles alternating from scrubs and forests, ponds, lagoons, rivers, overlong beaches of fine white sand, rugged cliffs and vertical reefs. The frequent erosion phenomena have originated the caves, underground lakes, precipice and sources, like those of “Su Gologone” of Oliena (the highest European canyon).

Between the more known coastal caves we remember:
• The Caves of Neptune in Alghero
• The Cave of  “Bue Marino”  at Cala Gonone

Between the land caves, are particularly appealing those of:
• Sa Oche and Su Bentu to Oliena
• Is Zuddas in Santadi
• Su Mannau in Fluminimaggiore
• Santa Barbara to Iglesias
• Su Marmuri to Ulassai
• Ispinigoli, at Dorgali
• San Giovanni near Domusnovas
• the Green Cave near Alghero

More than 600,000 hectares of territory are under environmental protection. In total it tally up:
• 3  national parks
• 8 regional parks
• 60 natural reserves
• 24 natural monuments
• 16 areas of naturalistic interest
• 5 WWF Oasis

Sardinia has a population of 1.5 million inhabitants, but tourism, especially bathing, recalls every year, more than 10 million visitors. Among the more popular seaside resort we found: Alghero, and the coral Riviera, Castelsardo, the Costa Smeralda, Dorgali, Orosei, Arbatax, La Maddalena, Loiri Porto San Paolo, Olbia, Palau, Porto Cervo, Porto Rotondo, Porto Torres, Pula, Chia, San Teodoro, Santa Teresa, Siniscola, Stintino, Villasimius, Island of San Pietro and Sant’Antioco.
All famous resorts of international fame, are equipped of tourist villages, exclusive hotels, harbours and leisure and entertainment services. The Costa Smeralda is undoubtedly the center of tourism of elite (among the most renowned of the world and increasingly used by people of fame and international success), but all over the island is more and more frequent find highly exclusive facilities.

It is really impossible appoint the best beaches on the island. They are many and almost all worthy of the best praise and appreciation. There are for all tastes: by kilometric expanses of white sand to small coves for two person enclosed in a bay, by beaches, whose high and hot sand dunes reminiscent of those of the deserts, to those rich of rocks and coves. What that associated them, is the environment in which they are: with some exceptions are immersed in pleasant natural landscape, often hilly.

Folk feasts most important are: Sant’ Efisio in Cagliari, the festival of Redeemer in Nuoro, Sant’Ardia in Sedilo, the Sardinian ride and the “faradda” in Sassari, Sa Sartiglia in Oristano, San Gavino in Porto Torres, San Michele in Alghero and San Simplicio in Olbia. Each of it curious and spectacular, especially for tourists who approaches for the first time.
The island has rich culinary tradition (derived mainly from the pastoral and agricultural activity of interland) appreciated throughout the world: from cheese to sausages, from bread to cakes, from wines to liqueurs.
